History
Founded by the Romans in the 1st Century AD, Tarraco, as they named it, became a strategic walled city for supplying Roman Spain and trading goods. In fact, this period was one of the most important for the region as during this time many major works were
constructed, a number of which survive to this day. The Roman amphitheatre, one of the best-conserved in Spain, together with the aqueduct and the various remains of the ancient Latin city, make this destination an interesting historical and cultural
spot to visit. During Muslim domination, Tarragona sank into a period when it found itself quite isolated, a situation that would not change until the arrival of the Counts of Barcelona who brought Christianity to it and a new, vigorous stimulus.
Today it is one of the most important tourist destinations on the Spanish Peninsula.
