The Ministry of Education, Social Policy and Sport, through the Secretary of State for Social Policy, Families, and Dependency and Disability Assistance and the IMSERSO (Institute for Older People and Social Services), runs the following programmes:
Holiday Programme for Older People:
This enables older people to enjoy holidays in locations with a warmer climate, to go on cultural tours in places and on routes that present significant interest for the tourist and to benefit from the recreational activities and sightseeing involved in nature tourism.
There are various modes of holidays to be enjoyed: breaks of 8, 10, 15 and 29 days, with or without transport included, as well as cultural trips of 6 days to enjoy tourist-cultural itineraries and breaks of 5 days for nature tourism in zones of natural areas that allow for recreational activities and to enjoy nature.
Social Hydrotherapy Programme:
Thermal treatments are being ever more recommended and are indicated for the prevention and rehabilitation of arthritis, rheumatism, respiratory problems and other ailments, as well as providing relaxation and rest.
This is a complementary service to Social Security services and is run by the IMSERSO, so that any pensioners over 60 who may need it can receive thermal treatment adapted to their personal needs, with the necessary medical examinations.
